Descriptif : The BRM (Bacterial RNAs & Medicine) mono-team research unit is jointly affiliated to Inserm and University of Rennes with strong links with the Rennes University Hospital (the Department of Clinical Bacteriology, the National Reference Center “Antibiorésistance”, the Department of Infectious Diseases and the Clinical Investigation Center). It is composed of both researchers and clinicians developing a transdisciplinary and translational research at the interface of microbiology, biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, chemistry and clinics. BRM uses ‘state-of-the-art’ complementary approaches from molecular mechanisms to ‘omics’, phenotypes, host-bacteria interactions, as well as different animal models of bacterial infections to unravel mechanisms of bacterial adaptation. The ambition of the team is to understand how bacterial pathogens reprogram gene expression through RNA and protein regulators, to develop novel diagnostic tools and therapeutics against multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium and Enterobacter cloacae complex. Three interconnected axes are developed in the team: 1) discovery of physiological and pathogenicity implications of RNA and protein regulators , 2) study of host-pathogen interactions and antibiotic persistence, and 3) Mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and development of novel antibacterial strategies
